Tabitha Cook, a Year 8 student from Teign School has represented the school in the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) show jumping at Bicton Arena this month.
It was the first time Tabitha and her new pony, Morley, had competed together and they had just 4 faults to finish in 16th place. Tabitha has only had him for 3 weeks and they are really looking forward to getting to know each other more over the winter and gaining more competition experience.
Tabitha also took a last minute ride on her sister’s pony, Betsy, who is quite strong and was very excited to be out competing. They completed a quick round but knocked a couple of poles.
The NSEA, established in 1991, is the recognised body for equestrianism in schools throughout the UK, providing inter-schools competitions for team and individual riders at state and independent schools as well as colleges of further education. Its aim is to promote and encourage the participation in and recognition of equestrian sport within schools in Great Britain. It is run by a number of industry experts with many years of experience both in schools and the highest levels of equestrian sport as organisers, judges, owners and competitors.
Lucie Wagner, Head of School at Teign Academy, said:
“Everyone at Teign School is so proud of Tabitha, she represented the school brilliantly and I know she is looking forward to taking part in more NSEA events with other team members. At Teign School we believe in promoting a rich and diverse range of sporting opportunities as we know how much they enrich young people’s lives.”
Matthew Shanks, CEO of Education South West said:
“Many congratulations to Tabitha and Morley on doing so well at the recent show jumping competition. It’s clear that her hard work and dedication is paying off. Participating in such events teaches resilience and discipline, qualities that will serve her well both in and out of the arena.”
