New maths building adds up to success for Kingsteignton students

24th July 2024

Teign School has officially opened its new maths building this month.

The new maths facility is housed in the school’s A Block, which is one of the longer standing buildings at Teign.  The school’s founding building was built in 1936 and as the local community has grown, so has the school site,  a new purpose built Science building was added just two years ago.

The school has accessed capital funding to improve the learning environment of our students and decided the A Block was most in need of a revamp.  They decided to demolish some of the building, which created more outdoor space and have completely renovated the classrooms that remained.  The school has been able to improve corridor spaces and build additional toilet facilities too.

One of Teign School’s core values is being at the centre of the community and as such they felt it was important to mark the occasion of the opening of this new facility.  They were  delighted to welcome Cllr Ron Peart (Mayor of Kingsteington) and Jackie Edwards (Kingsteington Town Cryer) to officially open the new Maths building.

A representative from the school’s Board of Trustees was also in attendance, along with  various other esteemed members of the local community.  The student body was represented by  Prefects and Student Leaders and photographs were taken by Sixth Form Photography students.

The school still isn't finished though, plans are being outlined on how they can make the outdoor space created a more welcoming area and they are hoping to install planters and picnic benches to provide students a positive space to enjoy their break times.  The ‘Teign is Green’ club is very keen to start planting once raised beds are in place.
