A Level Results
18th August 2022Teign School is celebrating the 2022 A level results and we are very proud of the achievements of our students. Our Year 13 have performed very well and they must all be congratulated on their well-deserved outcomes. The students have worked hard throughout the last two years and have taken the challenges of the pandemic in their stride. Their hard work and endeavours have been rewarded with some excellent results. This year marks a return to ‘normal’ exam series that we have not had since 2019. The students have conducted themselves brilliantly throughout their time at Teign and played a really important and positive role in promoting the positive ethos of the school. We recognise the efforts that our students, staff and families have put into their education.
We have some notable results from many of our students who have been offered places to continue their studies including:
University of Oxford - Experimental Psychology
University of Sheffield - English Language and Linguistics
University of Birmingham - English and Creative Writing
Bournemouth University - Psychology
Falmouth University - Graphic Design
Bournemouth University - Computing
University of Plymouth - Biological Sciences
University of Exeter - Liberal Arts
Bournemouth University - Archaeology and Anthropology
University of Bath - International Development with Economics
University of Worchester - Football, Business Management and Coaching

Headteacher, Suzannah Wharf, commented "With the return to formal exams our students and staff have worked so incredibly hard over the last two years, within the context of continued disruption to their education because of the ongoing covid pandemic, to achieve some very strong outcomes. We are very proud of the incredibly mature and resilient way our students have managed the challenges they have faced and commend their efforts. We will continue to support them over the next few days and months as they take the next steps into their adult lives. We are strongly committed to all our students being set up to be able to pursue their future dreams and careers when they leave school. We look forward to watching each and every unique journey that they are undertaking as it unfolds. Every child has the right to an education and at Teign, within Education South West, we will continue to ensure that all children receive the very best education possible as we continue to face extraordinary challenges locally, nationally and globally. Our children deserve the very best opportunities that we can offer and would like to congratulate all of the students for their achievements!”
The Department for Education have stated: ‘As you will be aware the government have been working to bring grades back into line with the 2019 national GCSE results after two years of Teacher Assessed Grades. Summer 2022 will be a transition year to reflect that we are in a pandemic recovery period. There will be more generous grading of exams this year compared to a normal exam year. In 2023 results will return to be in line with those in pre-pandemic years.
What does this mean for summer 2022? As we move back to pre-pandemic standards, overall results will be lower than in 2021 when teacher-assessed grades were used, but higher than in 2019 when summer exams were last held. The approach exam boards take to grading will reflect a midpoint between summer 2019 and 2021.’
